Lets See What You Got JB Productions!

April 26th, 2009

JB Productions came close to beating me at my own game! I’d love to see some one beat me. Come on guys fight for that top spot this week. We’ve got a HUGE film coming out this week with X-Men Origins Wolverine, so big numbers are on the line.

Next Week The Movies Get Huge

April 24th, 2009

This is the last weekend of small time movies. Next week marks the beginning of the Summer Season. Expect much larger box office numbers with X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Players could easily hit the $70 million mark if they can sweep the talent auctions for this bad boy.

This Week At HollywoodRollers.com

April 20th, 2009

Looks like getting the reminder emails out has helped get people back to the site in time to bid on talent for this week’s round. As always I can’t thank everyone enough for helping out and playing. I will be sending out reminders through out the week as we move through the phases. You’ll basically see 2 more from me this week

A few pointers for bidding on talent

1. Always check the talent with n/a for last “last week’s performance.” That means that it is a new movie opening this week and they have the highest potential for making your film $$$

2. Remember to get all your talent. Each movie must have 1 producer, 1 director, and 4 actors.

3. Make multiple movies! You can make as many movies in your groups as you have talent. If you have 3 producers, 3 directors, and 12 actors you can create 3 fake movies

4. Don’t get bummed if you miss out on filling up on talent by Tuesday night. You can still buy talent at the talent agency up until Friday night. That will help you create a movie if you have some left over talent.

5, Fire talent you don’t need. You can go to manage talent and get rid of the dead weight. You only get back 75% of your bid price, but hey that’s better than $0

That’s all for trying to help you people beat me at my own game. In the mean time I have finally setup an email account “jason at hollywood rollers.com” Feel free to contact me with any suggestions or comments.

Good luck!

Email Reminders Starting This Week

April 18th, 2009

Another thing we’re adding this week will be e-mail reminders for each phase of play — auctions, talent agency, and movie creation deadline. We got a lot of good feedback recently and this was a huge request. Expect the first email to go out this weekend. If you want to be taken off the list please just reply with unsubscribe and we won’t alert you anymore.

Adding Forgot Password Function

April 18th, 2009

It was brought to my attention that we didn’t have this so we’re adding this feature in the next few days.

I hope to have tons of celeb images to go with their names plus movie posters coming soon. This should add a ton of new visuals that will make it easier to identify talent when bidding on them.

Welcome New Beta Testers

April 5th, 2009

We’ve made a ton of improvements to the basic site security so now I feel comfortable opening this thing up to more and more of the public.

I hope as we see more and more beta testers join the site that we will be able to launch our first contest in a few weeks.

The first one will be pretty simple; have the highest grossing film for first week and win a prize. The prize will be either a t-shirt or a gift certificate to Amazon.com or something similar.

Movie Backlog Fixed

March 28th, 2009

I missed adding last week’s movies so if you are wondering where they were, mystery solved. This shouldn’t happen again but since we’re beta testing it’s really not that big of a deal.

As we get closer the big summer blockbusters we will have our first contest. If you are reading this stay tuned for details. Plus we are almost ready with our t-shirts for those playing or about to start playing.

More testing, and some changes

March 23rd, 2009

Movies, movies, movies. More testing with more people this week. In the mean time I am working on starting to get the word out about this hidden gem of a game. There will probably be a press release going out in a few weeks plus I may be lucky enough to score some radio time to shill for HollywoodRollers.com.

Plus we’ve added countdown timers for all the different actions during the week. We will be adding the option for players to get email notifications in the near future but that’s pretty low on the todo list.

Plus we should have t-shirts for some lucky beta tester/helpers in the coming weeks. Just got to find an artist I like enough to get the design done.

Moving on 2 Phase 2

March 20th, 2009

Since we have ironed out most of the major bugs and with the soft launch of the beta test phase we are moving on to the second phase of HollywoodRollers.com. Some upgrades to come are:

1. Images to go with talent in the auctions, talent agency, and on the home page.
2. A new game based on box office results. No it is not the standard lame “guess how much this movie will make game.” This is a totally new kind of game.
3. A referral system where if people you refer to the site win a prize you win the same prize.
4. Various interface changes to make the game simpler to learn and play.
5. A proper feedback system for bug reports and suggestions

We would love to hear feedback from the few of you that are playing now. Please feel free to leave comments in the blog for now.

Talent Agency Fix

March 19th, 2009

Talent was not being removed when players hired them in the talent agency. This has been fixed.
